Ultima's Tale
Prologue
Love, it’s fragile emotion that when destroyed, carries the distinct possibility of taking you with it. I am a fine example of that simple truth. My name is Ultima Korisowski; I am, well, was the captain of an Omega-Class Battlecarrier, the R.D.F. Peacekeeper. This is my story. My rise to fame, and my fall to the depths of insanity, so sit down, shut up, and try not the shit yourselves.
Re: Ultima's Tale
Chapter One
Like most stories, this one starts out on a more positive note than the prologue does. More specifically, my beginnings. How about we start with a brief summary my life up until the day I joined the RDF? Yeah, I figured you could care less, but back-story is back-story, so let’s begin…
My beginnings, like most, are rather modest, well, as modest as one can get when your mother is the Chief of Police. Especially the one for Paragon City. One of the largest cities in our realm. Her name was Lillian Korisowski, more commonly known as ‘Lilly’.
I also had a twin brother, by the name of Omega. We didn’t get along, probably because he wasn’t one to take the jeers by our peers at school lying down like I did. Yeah, that sounds like something worth going into for me.
It wasn’t just your average bullying for us. We were ‘special’ targets because of who our father was.
Kagaii, one of the most hated and feared names out there. The ‘top dog’ of the criminal world. He was the king of crime. A crime lord on the top of everyone’s most wanted list. Even our military force, the RDF, had a bone to pick with this bit of scum. The worst part was, he was our father. I’m betting that the question on your minds is ‘How could this happen?’ Well, let me fill that in with a single word. Rape. Yep, that’s right. Mom was raped by Kagaii, then she had us. It never did sit well with everyone, seeing as how her colleagues were all for abortion, but she wouldn’t have it. Even if we were bastard children of that scum, we were still her kids, and so, against pressure from all her friends, she had us.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before the kids in our classes to learn that we were the children of a monster. Defending ourselves only seemed to get us in trouble because the teachers had little respect for us. Just a bit of an eye-opener, huh? Our society was classified as near-utopian, yet here we were, being discriminated against and spat upon because we were the children of Kagaii. Like we were at fault, or just didn’t deserve to live.
Omega didn’t take it well and got into many fights, more often than not, the victor of those fights. Where was I during this, you ask? Well, I preferred to just let them have their fun, and ignore their jeering while focusing on my work. It wasn’t easy, with kids throwing things at me, and teachers looking for every excuse to fail me, I found it difficult to stay afloat and not succumb to the madness that Omega had succumbed to. I worked, I improved, and I earned my grades, forcing teachers to grudgingly give me those A’s and B’s. I relished the challenge it gave me as much as Omega relished taking down bullies twice his size. We each carved our own path through school. He, the unbeatable, quickly becoming the top bully; me, the simple nerd, 4.0 GPA. I don’t regret being that, either…
At the time, I failed to notice him starting to prove those people right. The apple didn’t fall too far from the tree on my father’s side for him. I landed significantly closer to my mom than that bastard Kagaii. It seemed like fate had her plans for us back then. Plans that didn’t involve us taking the peaceful path, for it wasn’t too long after college that we were approached by our father with a rather tempting offer to join him and destroy the people that looked down on us. Omega, already apparently too far gone, jumped at the opportunity. Me? I wouldn’t go for it. My defense was that it would be proving them all correct in their assumptions and accusations. I wouldn’t gain anything but infamy with Kagaii.
I nearly died that night. Omega stopped Kagaii, though. He said that I should be given time to consider his generous offer. That unlike him, I was more brains than brawn, and preferred to think things through before acting upon a decision. Kagaii agreed with him, and left with Omega. Telling me that if I ever decided to wise-up and join the ‘winning team’, that all I had to do was look.
Mom was devastated when she heard the news from me at the hospital, well, not so much devastated as she was pissed, but I figure that it was just to cover up the sadness at losing a son to that thing.
As for me, I got a job, and hunted down the nearest fighting school and gym. It was difficult at first, as I was more used to spending hours in front of a holo-screen and typing away at insane speeds than doing any form of real exercise. Never-the-less, I worked at it. I knew what I had to do next…
I decided to join the RDF and take my chances in the military. I figured that I would get better training there than in the police forces, not to mention access to better gear.
This is where my story begins…
