Path of the Hunters [PART 2]

"Hmm... Wanna grab some breakfast?"

She smiled, studying him. "You continue to surprise me. Oui."

He raised an eyebrow, opening the door for her. "How did I surprise you this time?"

"Per'aps I will explain it to you later." Smiling, she walked out.

He smirked, following her out the door, and opening the passenger side door of his car for her. "I hope you don't mind if I don't cook this time."

She laughed. "I do not mind at all." Sliding into the car, she smiled. "Per'aps later, I will actually cook for you."

He laughed through a grin. "Lookin' forward to it." After closing her door, he slid into the driver's seat, started the car, and drove off. "Now, I know a quiet little diner not far from here that makes some incredible breakfast, especially their omelets."

"Bonne." She stared out the window a few moments before sighing and turning to him. "Thank you for earlier."

He glanced at her, trying to keep his eyes on the road. "What? About not blaming you for what happened? Don't sweat it. Things happen, and we move on. Simple as that."

"I 'ave found that this is not always so." And learning that he could be so understanding was a small chain locking her to him. The longer she stayed, the harder it would be to go...

"Maybe, or maybe sometimes it's so tough, most people break apart because of it." He hoped she wasn't developing anything serious for him. She had to be prepared to move on should anything happen between them...

"This is more of what I see." She leaned back in her chair, mulling over her schedule. "I am leaving in two days."

He nodded. "We can get a lot done in that time. With your luck so far, you'll probably be a billionaire by then." He chuckled at this.

She smirked. "I already am."

He raised an eyebrow. "Big surprise. I almost hit that mark, but then I lost that bet."

She smiled. "I avoid gambling unless it is on a fight in which I am involved. I surpassed seven billion about two months ago," she mused, "on a bet."

He whistled. "That must have been some bet."

"It was. Everything I was worth versus everything 'e was worth." Her eyes glittered with amused satisfaction. "'E is sorry 'e challenged me."

He grinned. "Remind me to make a bet like that soon. If word gets out about who I really am, my worth's sure to jump."

"It won't get out through me," she assured him.

"Well, the only other person who knows besides you and the team is Briggs. He's the one who gave me my alias in the first place. He might not talk, but he gets kinda loose-tongued after a few beers."

She nodded. "Amile knows as well now. And Briggs 'as not given you away yet." She skimmed her gaze over him. "If your secret does get out, will you continue to go by Nova?"

He shrugged. "A name is a name is a name. Doesn't matter what I go by; I'll still be me. Chances are I'll still with Nova, though."

She nodded again. "It suits you better."

"Agreed. Take more after my dad, anyway, so I don't exactly look like an Emile."
