OK! Let's get this started!

A gray echidna relaxed under a tree in the local park. He took a look at the slip of paper in his hand: his reward check for his last completed mission. He then glanced at his clothing: tattered, torn, but plenty reperable.

"That's gonna be some cleaners bill," he said with a sigh. Such is the life of a mercenary, I guess.

All of a sudden, a limo screeched around the corner on the nearby street. A brown hedgefox, two modified Deagles in hand, jumped out of the car and sprinted after an equally dangerous-looking man running down the street with a bag.

"Hm?" His sense of justice getting the best of him, he quickly got to his feet, following the two sprinters. He pulled his own weapon from its holster: an almost futuristic-looking gun.

Kale noticed his new pursuer, and quickly called out, "If you're a good guy, speak up, otherwise say goodbye 'a yer fuckin' knees!"

"Relax!" Cross called back, speeding up to sprint alongside the hedgefox. "I recognize a crook when I see one, and you're chasin' one! Need a hand?"

"It'd help!" He fired at the crook's feet, trying to get him to trip, but missed every shot. Damn, he's fast... he thought.

"Let me try!" Grasping his weapon with both hands, he trained his sights on the crook's shoulder, and fired.

The thief screamed and tripped, tumbling and rolling for a full twenty feet before coming to a dazed halt, lying flat on his back on the sidewalk. Kale quickly reached him and pinned him down.

With the crook pinned, he moved past him, to the bag he dropped. "I take it this is yours," Cross said, picking up the bag.

Kale shook his head vigorously while cuffing the criminal. "I believe you'll rethink that statement if you look inside the bag. This guy's a drug lord."

Cross raised an eyebrow at the hedgefox. "You're a cop?"

He shrugged. "Ex-cop and war vet. Kind of a vigilante... But no one gets in my way."

"I can relate. I'm a merc. Name's Cross."

"I'm Kale." He pressed a button concealed in his vest and almost immediately, the limo from earlier pulled up beside him. He opened the door, threw the criminal in, and sat beside him. He patted the empty seat next to his. "Want a ride?"

"Why not?" he said with a shrug, taking the offered seat next to Kale, and closing the door. "I'm impressed. You're doing pretty well for a war vet."

Kale nodded. "Thanks."
The driver suddenly spoke up. "Hello, Cross. Nice to meet you."

Cross gave the driver a small salute. "Same here... Oh!" He noticed he still had his weapon out, and had saluted with it. He hastily stuffed it back into its holster on his belt. "I swear, this thing's so much a part of me..."

[Did Cross even notice that he hadn't introduced himself to Psyche?]
Kale laughed. "I can relate to that. These Deagles are my friggin' children."

"I can say that pretty much litterally with this thing," he said with a proud smile. "My own design, from the ground up. GUN's been trying to get me to mass produce them, but I don't want any parts of them."

[I just noticed.]
