"Yeah, well..." he muttered.

"Dusk." He looked up to his father. "You shouldn't feel obligated to stay. Neither should you, Dawn."

"Besides," Aurore said. "Your mates have family waiting for them, back home. You all 'ave your own lives to attend to."

"I love them, and you."

"Are you sure?" Lyra asked quietly, tears in her eyes.

"I love you too." She drew his head up, locked lips with his.

Kane smiled. "Lyra, I 'ave entrusted you with the life of my son. There is nothing more for you to do for me, beyond that. The same goes for you, Zavier."

"Yeah..." Zavier breathed, holding a delicate Dawn in his arms.

Dusk sighed. Just when he was finally getting to know his father... "...What about the funeral?"

The old wolf shook his head. "I am going to be cremated. I do not want you all mourning over a 'eadstone. Besides, I 'ave served both the Laroche and Baudoins. I do not want a conflict of 'oo gets the honor of burying me."

He sank into the kiss, snuggling close to her.

Lyra nuzzled him softly, doing her best not to cry.

Armande sighed quietly, nodded. "Then we will talk to Zidane and be on our way."

Aurora let the tears flow freely. "I'll miss you so much, Uncle Kane!"

Akira stood up and saluted him completely serious, "Sir, it's been a honor and a privelage."

She wrapped her arms around him, purring.

"We will meet again, some day..." Kane felt a tear cross his eye.

"...But not yet," Dusk finished, walking toward his father.

"...No. Not yet." And for the first time in what felt like a decade, father and son embraced, truly embraced. "I love you, son."

"I love you too, Dad."

He licked her softly, smiling.

And Lyra sniffled, the tears breaking free. Aurora clung to Sirius, pressing her face in his shoulder.

She sighed gently, snuggled into his neck. "I'm so tired..."

Dawn had finally broken into tears, pressing her face into Zavier's chest.

Finally, the two broke away from their embrace, smiled into each other's eyes. "Before we depart," Kane said. "There is one more thing I want to give you." A blade flashed in his hand, one of very high craftsmanship. A jeweled blade like the Kanes, but longer, a bit more slender. In contrast to the dark energy given off by the Kanes, this one gave off an almost holy presence.

"I know you are, love." He kissed her gently, pressing her close. "Go to sleep."

Aurélie smiled, slipping her hand into Nova's.

"Gladly. Sweet dreams." She settled into a comfortable spot, and was soon asleep.

Dusk sighed reverently at the sight of blade. "This is..."

"My magnum opus. I present you with the... Dawn..." He took a look at the blade, cleared his throat uneasily. "Forgive me. This blade is actually meant for Dawn."

"Me?" Dawn stepped to Dusk's side, gazing at the blade.

"Oui. Dusk, this one is yours." Another blade flashed in his other hand. It was a direct contrast to the Dawn: A bit shorter, thicker, made with darker metals and jewels, but gave off the same easing presence.

Nova chuckled softly. "Even with the serum, he's still an old man."

He drifted off a bit later, listening to her breathe. Sever was still out there... He needed to talk to his dad and find out why.

Aurélie sighed, shaking her head. "The blades, though, are incroyable."

"That they are..." Nova could feel it just as well. There was something special about those blades. They might even be a match against the likes of the Teufel and Akira.

"I leave you two with these blades," Kane continued. "Along with my greatest wishes for your futures."

"Dad..." He hesitated for a moment, then took the dark blade in his hand. Dawn soon followed with the light blade.

"Incredible..."

Lyra's tail wagged slightly as the tears starting to wane. It was okay. It was better that he went out like this rather than suddenly. This way... there were no regrets.

Dusk looked back up to his father, smiled. "...Thank you. For everything."

Dawn looked up as well, tears streaming. "...We're all gonna miss you."

Kane let the tears flow freely, hugged his daughter. "...Keep a memory of me. Not as your father, or a warrior. But as a man, fallible and flawed." He started to step back.

"Until we meet again," Dusk said one final time.

Kane gave him a warm smile. "I will be looking forward to it. Goodbye..." And that was the last they saw of the old wolf's face. He turned on his heel, and walked off, Aurora right at his side, their hands clasped together.

Aurélie turned, closed her eyes. She'd never truly expected the old wolf to die... But she would not cry. "Allez. Simone, I will contact you and your 'usband at a later time to tie up loose ends. For now... We should be going."

"...Of course," she said, wiping a tear from her eye. It pained her to see such a great figure in Laroche/Baudoin history depart on his "Long walk." All the same, it was an end he deserved. "I will keep you updated."

Sol sighed, stepped up to the woman. "Well, since we're leaving right now, you can drop this off to him for us." He handed her a small envelope.

"Absolutely."

"Akira," Aurélie began, "do you mind taking us all in one of your... plane-things?" Not knowing the proper term annoyed her, but she wasn't in the mood to translate everything correctly. "The sooner we return home, the better."

"Hey, no biggie." She said with a small smile. "I'd be happy to take you folk back. Certainly would be quicker our way than by airline anyways."

"Bonne." She sighed heavily.

"You all 'ave a safe trip 'ome," Simone said, starting back for the complex.

"Take care," Sol said, then started back onto the ship.

Dawn and Dusk watched their parents walk off for a bit more, then turned back to the ship. Immediately, Zavier came up and hugged Dawn, who cried silent tears into her chest. He whispered consoling words into her ear, gently stroking her hair.

Dusk met with Lyra, but had trouble taking his eyes off the blade. It was all he had left of his father, that he really cared about.

She laid a hand over his, sighing. "I love you, Dusk..."

His grip lightened on the blade in his hand, then it was out of sight. "I love you too, Lyra..." he said, looking up at her. He then pulled her into a warm embrace.

Once everyone was on board, the doors shut and the empty ship took off to the nearest base and their ship took off for the States. "Pilot, make it quick."

"Yes ma'am."

A subtle shift could be felt as the craft took a rather large jump in speed, if one could look outside, they'd see the vapor cone form around the ship as it broke the sound barrier.

She held tightly, wanted to bring him all the comfort she could. The transition of speed was surprisingly not disruptive.

He sighed heavily, brought them to a nearby seat. It was going to take him a while to adjust to his father being gone. It was one less person to argue with...
