She nuzzled him. "Do they know they brag a lot?"

"I think they do, but since they're around their own kind almost all the time, they probably see no problem with it, which adds a level of ignorance as well."

"That's sad," she decided and licked his neck softly. She liked the way he tasted.

He chuckled softly, then turned to the humans. "And don't get me wrong. I'm not stereotyping; I'm just making my observations known."

Damien rolled his eyes, "When are you folk understand that we love being the guys on top of the food chain for once? It's a nice feeling and I can't help if it goes to my head a little."

"Damien, shut up. Look, these are the standard sentinals, weak and mass-produced. Basically flying robot guard dogs. To you folk, they'd be a mild annoyance and as easily destroyed as they are created. We make them by the hundred and use them to patrol low-risk areas and save the real deadly stuff for places that don't have folk that can effectively level a skyscraper in seconds. They're equipped with a powerful and accurate energy beam, a weak shield, and a basic AI." Stated Katherine while shaking her head. "And a simple cloaking system for ambush purposes. Now stop giving us the evil-eye." The flying robot flew out the door and joined its cloaked comrades flying patrol around the pelican.

Danny frowned. Evil eye?

Star shook her head. "We're not, Katherine."

Nova stared annoyed at them still. "Maybe we would, if you didn't flaunt your asses, every single second."

"Enough!" Cross silenced them. "Who cares how arrogant they are? The fact remains is that they're on our side! Would you rather them be our enemies?"

"Yeah, so I can rip 'em a new one, since having one asshole isn't enough!"

Cross sighed. "You're hopeless, Nova."

"But he has a point," Dart said. "After being on top of the food chain for so long, one would think they would learn a little humility, at some point. But since they are our allies, I'll only complain but so much."

"Why complain about it at all...? In twenty years, they haven't changed. Can we just not argue?" Star asked.

He chuckled, "Hot-headed idiot." He glanced over a Cross, "Hey, if you want a few of these things, you can have them. I mean, hell, I could give you a small factory for them. They're pretty usefull, actually. Give them enough resources, and like engineers, they effectively have an infinite lifespan."

Cross sighed. "I'll look into it later. Right now, I just want to relax, without anymore pointless arguments," he added to Nova, who scoffed, stalked out the room.

Briggs laughed. "Fuck. Assholes or not, these guys know what's what. So long as they're on our side, I got no beef with 'em."

Sunny grinned. "Yeah."

Aurélie sighed, rising to follow her husband. "Pardon," she murmured.

Dart sighed, relaxed in his seat. He wasn't about to throw a tantrum, like his father, but it was still hard to hide the fact that he was thoroughly annoyed. A few strokes of Danny's hair, and he felt calmer already.

Cross sighed, sank into a seat. "Well anyway, it's always nice to have our uber-leet allies back in town, especially now that they're even stronger than before."

Damien chuckled, "We've made a few useful friends over the years."

Katherine nodded, "Some have been willing to share, and well, why turn down the offer to share tech? It's been an interesting 20 years after that incident."

Danny closed her eyes, purring softly.

Cross nodded. "I'm sure. Well, make yourselves at home. We're not as hi-tech, but we get by just fine."

"Hey, so long as the job get's done, that's what matters, right?" He said with a smirk.

"Damn straight," Briggs said, grinning. "Besides, who's not gonna brag that they got the best shit in the world, when they do? I know I'd be braggin' my ass off."

"Hey, it's fun being on top of the food chain." He said with a grin.

Star rolled her eyes. "Thank God we have you, Briggs. You can sympathize with them."

"No point in complainin' about the help, right? That's all I'm sayin'." With that, he went back to his plate of food.

Sunny laughed. "All right, Ms. keep-the-peace, shut the hell up."

"Just saying."

After the Europe team left, the rest of the day was long. Cross kept checking his phone, wondering when he was gonna get any word of their safe landing. It nearly drove him insane: his brother, team, friends, and even his own daughter, was going over to fight in what could very well be a war, while he stayed behind to "watch the house."

It was well past midnight. Compared to earlier that day, the house was empty, it's population cut in half. Cross wandered into the living room, plopped into a seat with a sigh.

"You're worried about them, aren't you?" It was Damien. He had walked back in, dismissing a black sentinal that quickly vanished.

He looked at the human briefly, shook his head. "They can handle themselves. It's just... Me, not being on the front lines with the rest of my team - it just feels weird. I mean, even my own daughter went to fight."
