"You're worried," he smirked as he took a seat, "It's natural. You're not the whole 'sit around and wait for the enemy' type, aren't you?"

"It comes with the territory. I'm no stranger to that scenario. If they make the first move, fine."

"Uh-huh, so am I. After all, comes with the territory of being a sniper."

"Yeah. It's not the fact that this is most likely a 'wait for the enemy' scenario. Just that I'm not leading my team out there, this time around."

"Ah, that explains it."

Star leaned against the doorway, frowning. They had more than enough people staying home. If he wanted to go, why was he still there?

He nodded. "I've been leading Orion Squad for over 20 years. It feels kinda funny to be left behind, while the rest of the team is going off to 'save the world.' I never really imagined it would happen... But I have no regrets." He looked over at the hedgecat at the doorway, smiled. "I stayed behind because I wanted to. It just so happened that the rest of the team didn't. But I have more important things to worry about, other than playing the hero with my friends. My family deserves more than that."

She returned the smile.

Damien chuckled, "Family first and all that. I respect and support that."

He nodded. "Besides, maybe I'll get the chance to settle the score, while I'm here."

He smirked, "I hope I at least get to break at least one bone before you have at him, though my offer to let a couple of my friends make him regret his grandparents were ever concieved still stands."

"Gotta get to him before me. I happen to be very proficient at interrogation and torture, myself."

"That's assuming he comes here." Star walked in, frowning. "Like Sunny said before, it won't exactly be easy to track Danny down. He has no idea she's with us."

"We don't know that. And even if he doesn't know, he's got the Baudoins on his side, to help him track. Best case scenario: he decides to abandon Danny, altogether."

"I ain't that cruel, you're the one with the score, I'm just offering to finish him off when you're done." His smirk darkened, "They won't mind if he's gone, no one likes his kind. Hell, if you do break him, I'll just haul him back to the ship for a little target practice..." He glanced over at Star, "It's never wise to underestimate the information networks of his kind. Besides, gotta remember that scum are everywhere and cash and threats go a long way in the underworld."

She sighed. "Yeah, I know... And I doubt he'd abandon Danny. She finally told me what her job was, in detail. Which is why I came to find you, Cross." She'd needed someone to cling to.

The echidna stood, pulled her into a tight embrace. "So, there was more to it, than just killing you and Sunny..."

"Isn't there always...?" He just knew he wasn't going to like this...

"No, it's still killing us. And Comet, actually. And any children we may have had It's just... how." She sighed. "The kids were to go first with us watching, then she was supposed to take us to Sever. And then... The way they killed the girl... They taught her how to do that and..." She pressed her face into Cross's chest, shuddering.

He sighed, pressed her closer. "...Damn him..." He stroked her hair softly, consoling her as best as he could, without sparking up his anger toward Sever. In all honesty, he wasn't surprised. "...And me? Sever and I clashed in the past. I'm sure he had something special planned for me."

"Fuck..." He hated being right about these things...

"I don't know. Danny just told me her job. I didn't want to know anything else. God, Cross, he's trained her to be a prostitute. He... She didn't think sex could be special until last night with Dart."

Again, not surprising. "Well, now she does. I'm sure she'll never think differently." He nuzzled her gently. "It's okay, Star. Danny's with us, now. She doesn't want to do those things, and she'll never have to."

"I know, but God... He's the one who... It's disgusting. I didn't think he could reach a new low."

"I'm more disgusted than surprised about this myself..." He muttered, shaking his head.
