Zombie Bullshit

The Hunter was shot in the head before he could kill Kale. A yellow echidna holding a sniper rifle walked up, extending his hand to Kale. "Merry Christmas."

"Ohh..." He took his hand and pulled himself up. "Thanks. I owe ya big-time." He picked up his rifle and brushed himself off. "God damn jumpy assholes... Well, thanks a lot. Are you alone or with a group? I gotta get back to my little party, maybe you could join us."

"Sounds fun. And no, I'm alone. Was in a group of four, but..."

Kale began walking in the direction the group had gone. "They didn't make it?"

"Not by a long shot. Poor bastards. Hardly knew 'em. Anyway, name's Deeth." He said, following.

"Call me Kale. If I'm not mistaken, they should be right around here..." He scanned the area for any sign of them.

"Yo!" Briggs called as Kale came into sight. "What kept ya!? We should be close to a safe house by now, and you decide to slack off?" That was when he noticed a new person with the hedgefox. "...Who's the new guy?"

"Well 'scuze me, but I can't exactly travel very far when I'm gettin' ripped apart by one 'a those scrawny hopper bastards. This guy saved me, says his name's Deeth."

"Deeth..." Cruz muttered.
Deeth blinked, looking at the fox. "Hey, buddy. I see you're not dead yet, that's good."
"Heh, 'course not. Good to see ya. I thought you were dead..."
"Not yet, amigo. Now, let's get to a safe house."

"Sounds good to me."

"Right this way," Briggs said, catching up to Nova, who was still looking around for the safe house. "Come on, man. You ain't found the damn thing yet?"

"I think we overshot it while still in the sewers," Nova said, still looking around for a sign or something. "The next one shouldn't be but so much farther."

"Dammit! I knew we shoulda stayed up top..."

Nova rolled his eyes. "Relax. I'm starting to recognize the area; there should be another somewhere close by."

"Good." Cruz said.

Our survivors come across a river in which the only way across is a drawbridge. The safe house door visible on the other side thanks to a rare still-working street-light.

Unfortunately, the drawbridge is currently pulled up, preventing access. The control room does seem intact, though. Perhaps someone could lower the bridge?

-Crescendo event-

By the control room is a pile of sandbags and a heavy machine gun is set up behind them, with the back facing the bridge.

New weapons: Combat Shotgun; Assault Rifle; Magnum

All of the weapons are scattered on the ground near splotches of blood. The lack of bodies attesting to the fact that all were infected.

"Looks like someone didn't quite make it," Kale said. "Well, this sniper rifle's no good fer me. I'm totally takin' that rifle, if no one minds." He picked up the rifle. "Oh-ho-ho, this was standard issue when I was in the war. Brings me back... I mean, sure, only a couple years, but still."

Looking across the river, Nova grumbled. "Well, that figures."

Briggs, meanwhile, had his eyes on the new shotgun on the ground. "Oh, fuck yeah! Auto shotty is mine!" He quickly tossed his old pump shotgun aside, sweeping up the combat one.

"Oh joy... I've got a baaad feeling about this..." Cruz muttered.
"Same here." Deeth said.

"We just gotta get the bridge down, and we're home free," Nova said, tossing his axe aside for the magnum. "...Anyone know how to bring it down?"

Happy with his new weapon, Kale raised his hand. "I think I could work those controls. Then I could hop on that sweet-ass mounted machine gun if one or two of you could cover me from behind, and then one of you could get what little I miss."

"If you're getting the HMG, what's the point of havin' that M-16?" Briggs reasoned. "Nova should mount it; that SMG won't get much farther."

Nova shrugged. "I got no problem with it. Up to you guys, really."

"Hm... Well that thing WILL overheat pretty quick... But, I guess I'm fine with my pistols if someone wants it."
